Can you wear your own gown during labor? In short: Yes! While you’ve been busy getting the nursery ready or packing a hospital bag full of essentials (including a coming home outfit for baby!), it’s easy to overlook one of the most obvious items: what you’ll be wearing in the hospital.
Can you keep your hospital gown?
You don’t have to. Most people choose to wear the gown because it’s easier, but you can wear your own clothes, if you prefer.

Robe: A robe can be comfortable to wrap around you. You can also just have it on to cover your back, but have it open in the front if you don’t want anything on your belly.
How many baby clothes should I take to the hospital?
Pack at least two or three sleepsuits, vests and a cardigan or two. Depending on what time of year it is you may also need something warm like a pramsuit. You might want to choose a special outfit too, for a going-home photo. A new parent’s best friend.
How long do you stay in the hospital after giving birth?
For an uncomplicated vaginal birth, you can expect to stay in the hospital for at least 24 hours; however, most people stay for about two days. If you’ve had a C-section, your stay will be three to four days in most cases. If you are experiencing any kind of medical complication, you should expect to stay longer.
Where does the poop go when you give birth?
They pass a substance called meconium, which goes into the amniotic fluid. If a baby ingests meconium on delivery, it can have health consequences. Meconium is the medical term for a fetuses poop, or bowel movement.
