Is Bactigras better than Inadine?
The bactericidal activities of Acticoat, Aquacel Ag, and Bactigras were similar and more effective than Inadine and MelDra (P < 0.05). MelDra had the most variable bactericidal activity. It was interesting that the bactericidal activity of MelDra was more rapid and pronounced against MRSA than it was against MSSA.

The frequency of changing the Bactigras dressing will depend on the clinical circumstances and this can vary from more than once a day to twice per week. S&S of local wound infection are resolved within 2 weeks. If used prophylactically, a wound infection does not occur.
How do you use Bactigras chlorhexidine gauze dressing?
Application
- Wash hands before and after treating wound. Gently clean wound and surrounding skin.
- Peel open foil sachet. Cut dressing to size.
- Remove protective paper to reveal BACTIGRAS◊ gauze.
- Place BACTIGRAS◊ onto the wound.
- Place second dressing(e.g. MELOLIN◊ pad) over BACTIGRAS◊ for added protection and absorption.
When should you not use Inadine dressing?
Povidone-iodine Fabric Dressing is used as a wound contact layer for abrasions and superficial burns. It is contra-indicated in patients with severe renal impairment and in women who are pregnant or breast-feeding; it should be used with caution in patients with thyroid disease and in children under 6 months.
